Today, Wendy and I want to introduce you to our second amazing designer who we'll be showcasing on our miss + meisie stand at this years Food, Wine & Design fair in Jo'berg.
Peta Becker, is one seriously talented lady. Based in Cape Town, Peta founded PROJEKT, a design based company who produce the most wonderful African crochet I've ever seen! PROJEKT's craftswomen are a talented group who live in the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Hout Bay. These clever ladies are from all over Southern Africa - Transkei, Zimbabwe, Malawi and DRC (Congo).

South African born Peta spent 18 years working in design in London before coming home to set up PROJEKT which has been running since 2006. The women meet up once a week to discuss their designs and incoming work to co-ordinate the orders. Peta tells me that their design inspiration comes from nature, art, and their imaginations. The perfect combination in my eyes! This brings me on to their adorable and ever growing creations of crocheted cacti and potted succulents, it was love at first sight!
Crochet is their most popular craft, and the reason for this is because it can be made anywhere- even in a taxi! - all you need is a hook. Its clean, green and uses no energy and also gives the women flexibility to fit around their lives as mothers.
